Fortnite Charater Profile

A Character Profile is describing there character, what they are now, and who they are.  My Character is the female version of Overtaker, her name is White out, SHe is part of the Vanishing Point Set.

I don't really know anything about fortnite but learning about this skin was really cool.  I tried to find a fortnite skin that I would actually like, and the skin I found is called Whiteout, she is the female version of Overtaker.

Who Am I?

Learning about historic leader's from all around the world is a great opportunity to learn about history.

That is the exact activity that we as a class had done.  There are some many unrecognised leader's that half the world has never heard of.

The leader's names are: Princess Diana (Princess of Heart's), Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Queen Salote, Mother Teresa, Lebron James, Kate Sheppard, Malala Yousafzai, Anne Frank, Dame Whina Cooper.

Own Design Character Profile

LI: to create a character profile

Our challenge was to design our own anime/manga character. Our next challenge was to draw the character on our chromebooks or on paper.

I chose to draw my character on my chromebook because I think I do better on my computer than on paper

Our final challenge was to write a paragraph that describes our character.

I enjoyed this because I love this character, they escaped from a demon farm at just 11 and under!

Anime/Manga Character Profile

LI: to create a character profile.

Our challenge was to choose our favourite anime/manga character. Our next challenge was to draw the character on our chromebooks or on paper.

I chose to draw my character on my chromebook because I found it easier to just draw the image (also since I don't have a rubber)

Our final challenge was to write a paragraph that describes our character and explains why this character is your favourite

I enjoyed this because I already knew so much about my character.

Manga Artist

LI: to read for meaning and understanding

Our challenge today was to use our
smart searching skills to create a DLO in our own words that tells us about the life of our favourite manga artist or a well known manga artist.

A fact I found interesting is that they haven't revealed their gender for a while because I had thought of what gender they were but I wasn't sure.

Katsudo Shashin Animation

LI: to create an animation

One of the oldest surviving pieces of Japanese animation may be a nameless, dateless, approximately 3-second film known as “Katsudo Shashin“ (literally “Action Photo“). It simply features a boy writing the words 活動写真 katsudo shashin and then doffing his cap.

Our challenge today was to use our animation skills to create our own 3 second ‘action photo’ using our own manga character.

I enjoyed this because I got to experiment with different colours and animes to choose from.

The History of Manga

LI: to read for meaning and understanding

Our challenge today was to complete a reading comprehension about the history of Manga to show that we are reading for meaning and understanding.

Our final challenge in this activity was to create a DLO to share the information we found out.
A fact I found interesting is that cartoons and anime are just the same, I never knew that! Why this fact had suprised me is because
cartoons look nowhere near close as anime, they are designed entirely different.

Shoe Custimization

The reason on why I customize my shoe like this is because it has musical colours, Of course music can have any type of colours, but for me music has these colours.

Music has been with me through tough times and sometimes has been the only friend I need when I get home.

To me when I listen through music it’s like my blood and heart dance to the beat, but once I have to stop listening to music I feel i’m back in reality.

How to Survive a Cow Attack

LI: to evalute

This week we are using our skills of inferring and reorganising information in a text to make evaluation about facts and events that is not stated. Our follow up challenge was to read an article that told us how to survive a cow attack. We then used the infomrationfrom both texts to create a DLO that tells others how to survive a cow attack.

List Poem

LI: To write a list poem that describes a topic by painting a picture with your words.

Today we wrote list poems about a topic we connected with. Our challenge was to use desacriptive language features to paint a clear picture with our words.

Hello/Goodbye Poem

LI: to paint a picture with my words.

This morning Miss Sheena joined our online Meet and taught us how to write a Hello/Goodbye poem. This poem shows the contrast between things lockdown made us leave behind and the things lockdown gives us the opportunity to do.

Solid, Liquid, Gas Matters | Tech

Today was our last tech rotation in science, so this time we learned about Solids, Liquids and Gases.

A solid is a sample of matter that retains its shape and density, Liquids are taking on the shape of the container but not changing in volume.  And finally, Gases, When more gas particles enter a container, there is less space for the particles to spread out, and they become compressed.

after we did all of this we played Kahoot, I got 2nd place.

Ancient Olympic Games Presentation

LI: To skim and scan to find facts about the Ancient Olympics and make notes in my own words.

We used our reading time this week to find out about the Ancient Greek Olympics. Once we had made our notes and reorganised our information we collaboratively created a presentation.

I found out that women would be thrown off of Mt. Olympus, as a consequence of sneaking into a game where the men play naked.

I enjoyed this informative opportunity because of how interesting it was to find out what was and wasn't allowed during the Ancient Greek Olympics

Hauora

LI: To draw and label your own Hauora diagram

In order to be able to perform at their best athletes need to have a four walls of the whare tapawha standing.

We created this poster to show what each wall represents and why it is important.

I found out that an athlete could be better than they could be, whilst making themselves more stable if they ever lose

I enjoyed making the poster Because I could see that if all these athletes had these 4 walls they could make themselves better than they already are.

The activities we did were:

- Sitting

- Jogging on the Spot

- Throwing and Catching balls

Stretching

- Star jumps

- Running as Fast as Possible on the Spot

The activity that had the lowest blood / heart pressure was Sitting and doing Star Jumps. The highest blood pressure / heart pressure was the Jogging on the spot and Throwing and Catching Balls.

Hauora

Athletes who win make sure they know how to also lose in a proper manner, it’s normal for people to cry when they win or lose.

Tears of happiness and gratitude for the winners and tears of sorrow and disappointment for those who have taken a step back.

It is important to enjoy and celebrate the success you earn, embrace the goals you have achieved and the goals that you have set for yourself.  Motivating yourself makes you believe that you can do anything that you put your mind to.

Thinking Grid | Water Safety

LI: To Learn about Water Safety

Water safety is an important lesson that all schools should teach evrry single student.

The first water safety activity is called the “Thinking Grid”, the thinking grid allows you to ask yourself questions about swimming and also ask's you questions .

Some of the questions are; What do you Know about Water Safety? & How Might You Get Into Trouble in the Water?

PBS is thinking about water safety because of how many NZ People drown every year without knowing anything about how to get into the water & how to swim. Which is the most important lesson to learn when wanting to swim.

Mindfulness Reflection

LI: to learn about Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about calming your body and mind, focusing on the present and leaving any negativity behind.  Being able to have a positive mindset.  For this new programme we were learning about how to be mindful, and how to rest our mind.  This programme helped us meditate and learn how to get into a positive mindset rather being in a negative place in our mind.

When meditating we focused on our posture and our breathing, which helped us relax and chill.  Doing this helped us focused on the present and kept our minds in the present rather than losing concentration, to the cause of mind wandering.

Organizing & Researching

LI: To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology.

Today David shared the next reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. In this smart searching activity, we used our comprehension and research skills to learn about Greek Mythology vocabulary and identify Greek places on the map.

I found this activity quite fun because we could reasearch different parts of Ancient Greece .

The word/place I found most interesting was Delphi because I had never heard of that place before.

Vision Board

A vision board is a poster that displays what your goals are and how you are going to accomplish them, In total I have 6 goals that I would like to accomplish.

The six goals That I have are things that I have just started working towards since the beginning of the year, Those goals are:

- Learning how to play the piano fully

- Becoming a fashion designer

An abstract noun is something that can’t be physically touched, as in a feeling (happiness, fear, love, etc) also the 5 senses. This week, LS2 have been learning about Metaphors and Nouns. We got into groups and were introduced  on what is nouns , what we see in the poem ( the structure) and the 5 senses. Our group created a Metaphor about happiness; Happiness is the blooming rainbow that shines when the sun comes out after the rain. A Metaphor is a comparison of two things without using ‘like’ or ‘as’. We created our own poem as a group about Jealousy.

Inquiry Summary

LI: to explain in fewer words what the text is about

For our Inquiry we were learning about Matariki, and the origin story. Our task was to watch a video on the Maori Creation story and we had to summarise the video. The video was an artist representing and creating the story through sand art.

Our 20 important words had to be the top important words from the video, words that represented the story. Then from the 20 we had to pick the 6 most important words Then using those 6 words we had to sum up the story in a few sentences.

Main Ideas

LI: to identify the main ideas in the text

Our next activity was to continue our learning with Matariki and Maori Stories.

For this activity we talked about the general important ideas, the 4 very important ideas, and the 3 vital ideas of the story.

The important ideas are composed of 4 specific things that might basically summarise the story. The 3 vital ideas are composed of key parts of the story.

Venn Diagram

LI: to find as many similarities and differences as you can between the video and the text of “The Beginning”.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a Venn Diagram. For our Venn Diagram we compared the differences and similarities between the Video and Written Version of the Maori Creation Story.

A Venn Diagram, is a diagram showcasing the differences and similarities between two different things.

Creative Writing

LI: To understand how to use descriptive words to make your writing more interesting.

Our focus for writing this week was to use descriptive writing, which means using words that are powerful, making your text more exciting to read and add more detail into your writing. We were tasked to work collaboratively in pairs to complete this task.

Our task was to describe one of the two pictures that we were given. To make this task easier we would use our prior knowledge of sentence structures, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and descriptive words to create a piece of writing that uses descriptive words to make the text exciting to read.

I found this interesting because I could make up a story about 2 option pictures picture we wanted to do.

Following Classroom Rules & Expectations |PB4L

LI: To follow the rules and expectations, expected from teachers.

This weeks PB4L learning is about following classroom rules and expectations. PB4L is a acronym describing Positive Behavior for Learning.

PB4L helps us understand the correct behavior for inside classroom learning and outer learning. This consist of Classroom discussions, walking to assembly, behaviour on school trips, wet day procedure eg. respecting wet day monitors. All of these prospects will help us develop a strong and healthy learning enviroment.

I found this activity very educational because It showed me all the different types of expectations

Science | TECH

LI: to explore science equipment.

Our task was to measure an exact amount of sugar and dissolve in both hot and cold water to make a solution.

The equipment we used was:

-  A petri dish

- A weighing machine

- Table sugar

- Two 200ml beakers

-  A pipette ( or dropper)

- Spatula

- Thermometer

- Stop watch

The method we used was placing a petri dish on the weighing machine or a scale. Fill the beaker with 100ml  of cold water, measure 10 grams of sugar in the petri dish. Pour the 10 grams of sugar in the 100ml beaker with the water and stir.

we used the stopwatch to see how long the water would take for the hot and cold water to dissolve. Obviously the hot water had more effect than the cold water, and the hot water had made everything sticky.

Current Events

LI: To find the important information in a current event.

LI: To identify the author's purpose.

This week for reading we learnt about the authors purpose. Authors write for a purpose/reason. These reasons are to persuade, inform, explain or entertain (PIE).

First we looked on Kiwi Kids News to find a article. Then, we made a copy of the current events DLO and answered the questons:

  • What is the article about?
  • When the artice was created?
  • Where the article was made?
  • Who created the article?
  • Why the author wrote the article?
  • How it was made?
  • What do you think the author wanted you to learn from the artice?.

I found this activity fun and intresting because it was fun to fill in the questions and the article I picked was intresting to learn about.

Student Leader Conferences

LI: to share our learning with our families

The Student Leader Conference is something I had never done before, so when it was my turn I was quite nervous, until I saw that some of my friends were their, then I felt just a bit more confident.

That's when the conference began, Mrs Anderson had handed me my script and then I showed my parent around workspace 2, since i'm in all of Mrs Fisi'iahi's subject groups.

In the end my mum was really proud of all the work I have done, but I still promised her I would improve in my academics

Samoan Language Week

This week is Samoan Language Week - Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa. The theme for 2021 is Poupou le lotoifale. Ola manuia le anofale which means strengthen the posts of your house, for all to thrive.

In LS2 we have decided to value the measina of the language by creating a screencastify that teaches others how to use Samoan words and phrases.

My partner and I chose to pay it forward by showing others how to count in samoan which might be something new they have learnt.

I found this challenge really fun since my partner and I got to take turns saying which words. But when it was coming close to the end it got harder with the foods.

LI: To pay it forward by creating a screencastify that teaches others how to use Samoan words and phrases

Cinquain Poem

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines.

Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun.

Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.

I enjoyed this activity because it gave me a chance to find out new Adjectives & Verbs.

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe a sports star

My Reading Pathway

This week is book week at Panmure Bridge School, which means every class participates in a number of reading activities.

One of our activities was to create a reading pathway that shows how my favourite books have changed over time. At the moment I like reading "As Old As Time, A Twisted Tale"

I really like this book because, I found out many different words and the definitions of them in this book, I just finished reading it the other day and it has about 400 pages worth of learning new words.

Lead a School Assembly

This is my third task i've completed to try and get my silver confidence.

As apart of completing my silver confidence badge, I was required to present at assembly today.

During the assembly my legs were shaking and I was just sitting there clapping at the awards that other people got. When it was my turn to speak according to the script, my legs would shake even more.

But over time I got over it because Lily was encouraging me by standing next to me when it was my turn to speak, and telling me that I was doing a good job throughout the whole time.

Here are some photos taken during the assembly

Toys

LI: To strengthen connections to technology

We have been learning about technological practice.  This week we have been learning about the 6 processes of Technological Design and how each one is important in the process of designing a product.

We are using the processes of technological practices to  design and build a rubber band- powered rover that can scramble across the floor.

I found this quite interesting because, we could find and examine what materials we were able to use to make our own version of a mars rover.

ASB Getwise

LI: To Stop, Think, and make smart decisions with Money.

Today, someone from the ASB Bank came to talk to us about how to spend our money wisely and also how to save it.

Our instructor was talking to us for a little bit and then, he said that we were going to play a game called holiday.

He would give us $1,800 to spend on our hoilday to Fiji. If we needed more money we could  use the banks credit card and pay the amount that we used for back to the bank, but if we didn't have any money left we would be in debt.

When he wanted the exact amount of money that we used for our travel insurance we had given it to him cause we saved up that money.

The catagories we were to spend our money on was - The Passport, Plane Ticket, Accomidation, Insurance, Activites, and lastly the food.

In one of the last rounds we got food poisoning fron "Joe's Fish & Chips" but since we got travel insurance, they paid for our medicine.

The game we played was fun and taught us the meaning of saving money.

Moment In Time Poem

LI: To use powerful words to describe a setting so that it paints a clear picture in the mind of the reader

A setting is the place, time and environment of a story to help a reader make a connection to your narrative you need to use your words in away that helps them form a picture of what you are describing in their mind.

To do this we looked at an image and thought of 10 words that described and showed what we could see. Once we had thought of the adjectives or adverbs we used our smart searching skills to help us find synoymns that made our descriptions clearer.

I found this interesting and fun to do because I was able to use different language features to describe and create a poem using my knowledge of description.

Helping Others Become Cybersmart

LI: To create a DLO that helps others become Cybersmart.

For those who are new to using a Netbook can try and learn shortcuts, if they use shortcuts they can easily get around from tab to tab.

Using a Netbook can be quite hard at first but then after a while it gets easier and easier, them learning shortcuts can help them a lot.

I have created a DLO writing down what some shortcuts are and what they do, for example an easy one is: Ctrl + W = closing a tab down.

I found this activity really enjoyable because I could show what some shortcuts are to new people who aren't familiar with Netbooks

Outside The Box Art

LI: To think outside the box, be creative and complete the picture.

Outside the box art is an imaginative type of art, its where you can tap into your imagination and come up with multiple ideas, using only little resources you have or are allowed to use.

For this activity I used a single line to make this portrait. Many ideas flood through my head so i played around with the line and came up with this portrait.

I found this to be the most enjoyable activity because, i could play with all the ideas and chose one that I liked and chose to do. There were some parts that I found challenging for example like using a single line to make hair strands that was quite tough but it was worth it in the end.

Why do we use TEEL Paragraphs?

LI: to understand how TEEL paragraphs can help us structure our information and ideas in a paragraph.

Using TEEL as a structure to write a paragraph gives people more information about the chosen topic.  When someone structures their paragraph with TEEL, it makes the information  easier to understand the text.

TEEL is short for Topic sentence, Elaborate, Evidence & Link. The topic sentence is the main sentence in the paragraph that gives the reader not only the general topic, but also the main idea of it.  Evidence is a text that backs up the point that I would be trying to make.  Linking the paragraphs help to make a connection that gives the reader a clue about what will be happening in the next paragraph.

A good paragraph uses all the points that TEEL can help with.  I enjoyed this task because it gave a a better understanding of how to use TEEL and also how to make more developed paragraphs

Why Is It Important To Be Hydrated?

L.I to understand why staying hydrated is important for our health and for our learning.

This week we learnt about hydration and dehydration. Being hydrated means you body has enough fluids to function properly and dehydration means you don’t have enough water for your body to function properly.

Our task was to define the meaning of hydration, dehydration and the effects they  have on our body. One fact That I found really interesting was that drinking water helps your digestive system work properly.

Statistical Investigation

LI: To plan & carry out a statistical investigation.

For maths, we did a statistical investigation and found out information about LS2 students.

First, we got into pairs and thought about four different questions to ask the LS2 students. Our four questions were ‘What is your birthday month?’, ‘How old are you?’, ‘What is your favourite animal?’ and ‘What is your favourite food?’.

Next, we cut out the answers and stuck them to a large piece of paper to look like a graph. More people had their birthdays in February and June. Less people had their birthdays in December, April and September.

Finally, we looked through the information and data we collected in our statistical investigation and created a pie chart using a google draw.

I enjoyed this activity and performing this statistical investigation. Before carrying out this statistical investigation, I predicted that more people would be born in March, but instead of being right I got it wrong the correct answer was February & June
