Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe a leader who inspires you.

This term we have been building our leadership skills. Our challenge today was to write a cinquain poem to help us strengthen our connections to description that describes leaders who inspire us. 

A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. 

List Poem

LI: To write a list poem that describes a topic by painting a picture with your words.

Today we wrote list poems about a topic we connected with. Our challenge was to use desacriptive language features to paint a clear picture with our words.

Hello/Goodbye Poem

This morning Miss Sheena joined our online Meet and taught us how to write a Hello/Goodbye poem. This poem shows the contrast between things lockdown made us leave behind and the things lockdown gives us the opportunity to do. 

Things I am Afraid Of | Writing

For this Wrting activity we had focused on describing what a million means to us, but if we wanted to chose our own, we could come up with one of our own.  

The topic for the list poem I choose was Things I'm afraid of.

An abstract noun is something that can’t be physically touched, as in a feeling (Happiness, fear, love, etc.

This week LS2 have been learning about Metaphors and Abstract Nouns.  

This poem has been created by me and my  pair,  for this poem we were asked to use DRAFT(Delete, , Rearrange, Add, Fix, Talk) in our poem. 

We used the 5 senses(Smell, hear, taste, feel and see), Punctuation, .)& Complex( it when u add 2 ideas together, and one idea doesn't make sense without the other idea)Sentences

Jealousy

LI: To write an abstract noun sentence.

An abstract noun is something that can’t be physically touched, as in a feeling (happiness, fear, love, etc) also the 5 senses. This week, LS2 have been learning about Metaphors and Nouns. We got into groups and were introduced  on what is nouns , what we see in the poem ( the structure) and the 5 senses. Our group created a Metaphor about happiness; Happiness is the blooming rainbow that shines when the sun comes out after the rain. A Metaphor is a comparison of two things without using ‘like’ or ‘as’. We created our own poem as a group about Jealousy.  

Creative Writing

LI: To understand how to use descriptive words to make your writing more interesting.

Our focus for writing this week was to use descriptive writing, which means using words that are powerful, making your text more exciting to read and add more detail into your writing. We were tasked to work collaboratively in pairs to complete this task.

Our task was to describe one of the two pictures that we were given. To make this task easier we would use our prior knowledge of sentence structures, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and descriptive words to create a piece of writing that uses descriptive words to make the text exciting to read. 

I found this interesting because I could make up a story about 2 option pictures picture we wanted to do.

I enjoyed this activity because it gave me a chance to find out new Adjectives & Verbs.

Moment In Time Poem

LI: To use powerful words to describe a setting so that it paints a clear picture in the mind of the reader

A setting is the place, time and environment of a story to help a reader make a connection to your narrative you need to use your words in away that helps them form a picture of what you are describing in their mind.

To do this we looked at an image and thought of 10 words that described and showed what we could see. Once we had thought of the adjectives or adverbs we used our smart searching skills to help us find synoymns that made our descriptions clearer.

I found this interesting and fun to do because I was able to use different language features to describe and create a poem using my knowledge of description.

Why do we use TEEL Paragraphs?

LI: to understand how TEEL paragraphs can help us structure our information and ideas in a paragraph.

Using TEEL as a structure to write a paragraph gives people more information about the chosen topic.  When someone structures their paragraph with TEEL, it makes the information  easier to understand the text.

 

TEEL is short for Topic sentence, Elaborate, Evidence & Link. The topic sentence is the main sentence in the paragraph that gives the reader not only the general topic, but also the main idea of it.  Evidence is a text that backs up the point that I would be trying to make.  Linking the paragraphs help to make a connection that gives the reader a clue about what will be happening in the next paragraph. 

 

A good paragraph uses all the points that TEEL can help with.  I enjoyed this task because it gave a a better understanding of how to use TEEL and also how to make more developed paragraphs 

Summary of E Tiriti o Waitangi

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about

                                                            

The Treaty of Waitangi was made to bring peace to New Zealand. Our task was to read a text about how the Treaty of Waitangi began. We used used respical reading to help us understand the text more. When we completed reading the text, we were using  summarizing template to help us create a  short paragraph telling us about the story. This task was really fun because we got to learn more about our past and what happened when the britain came to New Zealand.                                             

 

Speech Planning | Writing

This week for writing I tried to memorise my speech and if I couldn't than I could read it off of my device.

First, I had to plan out what I was going to say like brainstorming different ideas of some different topics that we could use in our speech.

My topic for my speech was "Mufti".  I had chosen to do this topic because kids should have the right to express themselves.

Next, I needed a main website to find some facts from.  The facts were to back up my reason for my argument.

After that, I needed a solution and a summary.  The solution was to take away uniforms and letting the kids wear mufti, and the summary was ending the speech in a good way.

Persuasive speech plan | Writing

This week for writing I planned out my speech about why kids should be allowed to wear mufti at school.

First, I had to come up with a greeting, there are a lot of greetings but I only wrote a few.

Next, I wrote down my introduction about my topic in a catchy way for my speech.

Then, I made a rhetorical question, a rhetorical question is a question that someone asks without expecting an answer.  After, I wrote down my opinion about my argument.

Then I had to research some facts about why kids should be allowed to wear mufti I had found out that when you wear mufti you can express yourself.  After writing down all of this I wrote a solution to this and how we could fix it.

I found this activity quite enjoyable.  The most enjoyable part was researching different facts from different sites.

 

Persuading Others

LI: What is Persuasion?

Persuading means to cause something by reason or argument.

This activity is us trying to persuade our partner we tried to persuade people in 2 different ways the first one was telling them to their face and the second one was to try and persuade them by text.

We made a poster about a topic that got chosen, we were supposed to agree with the topic or disagree with it.  below you will see the topic and why I disagreed with it.

Rewrite Character | Writing

A rewrite of a narrative gets ideas from the story and changes them to make a new story that go's with the storyline of the original story.

The fox was changed to a wolf because they are similar.  The underground house was changed to a den.  Instead of the roasted fox the Gruffalo's favourite food is wolf ice cream.

Rewriting a narrative can help with coming up with new creative ideas.

Character Description

A character description creates an image or picture by giving information of the characters appearance, experiences and personalities.

The appearance description tells about what the face, hair, body, and the clothes look like.

The experience description gives information about where they live, their friends and family, their interests, hobbies or talents, their secrets or special achievements.

The personality description explains what kind of person they are, what they say, what makes them different or interesting and how they behave.

The purposes of writing a character description is to practise visualising a character, and practise using literal and figurative language.

Synonyms | Writing

This weeks learning was about synonyms. 

Synonyms are words that can be similar to other words. For example the word problem can be related to, issue, emergency & situation.

Adverbs are words that describe the way that something happened.
Verbs are words that are also describing but describes an action

Writing | Information report

This week we learnt about the structure of an information report, it has a Title, introduction, information and a conclusion.

We had to choose an animal and do some research on it, I chose a "Pufferfish"
a cool fact I found about this animal is that it could grow up to 4 feet long.

Homographs & Homonyms

Homonyms are words that have the same pronunciation, and spelling but  different meaning.

Homographs are words that are spelt the same, but have a different pronunciation and meaning.

Punctuation Marks

This week we went learnt about 5 different Punctuation Marks and how to use them.
First we learnt about what Punctuation Marks are and how to use each different one.
Next we created a poster to show our learning.Our group did good
Hopefully I can use the correct Punctuation in my writing
