Summer Tastes | Summer Learning Journey

Today for this Summer Learning Journey activity I participated in an activity called "Super Summer Tastes".

This activity is about listing down our favourite summer foods while trying to find different images and describing them in our own way.

You could make the image in different shapes that you could have seen and try to make a pattern with them.  I made a honeycomb pattern with all of the images and shapes that I found while browsing through the web.

It's Cool To Be Kind | Summer Learning Journey

Today For this Summer Learning Journey task I did an activity called “It’s cool to be kind”.

The objective of the game is to report all the trouble makers and spread love and kindness to all the victims the trouble maker has hurt emotionally.

I completed this activity and found it really fun with all the obstacle courses placed so I had to think about where to jump in the right places to get to the best location

Below is an image of this activity.

Summer Haiku | Summer Learning Journey

For the Summer Learning Journey task today I did this activity called "Summer Haiku".

First, I watched A video on how to write a Haiku since I had never made one before.  In the video It showed how many syllables your supposed to use in those three lines, the pattern of syllables is "5, 7, 5".

After watching the video I made a copy of a template where I had to write my own original Haiku about the topic summer and also find an image that relates to my haiku.

First, I watched a video of some students from Mangere College sing the song Rise Up.

After watching that video I made a copy of the Rise Up template where I could change the image to the song of my liking. I just changed the image but I kept the song

This activity was quite enjoyable since I could go and research some other songs and also some other images.

Speech For Presentation | Inquiry

We presented our inquiry presentation to the teachers of LS1 the teachers, Mr Wong & Mr Ogilvie.

Before presenting our inquiry, we practised our script and timed how long the whole presentation took. The presentation expectation was to be within 2 and 3 minutes.

The feedback that we got was to not write a recount on what we worked on together, but instead talk about the main points of the activity.

Kowhaiwhai Pattern | Step It Up | Summer Learning Journey

For the Summer Learning Journey Task I did a Step it up version of an activity called "Kowhaiwhai Pattern".

First, I watched a small video where I had to find the wiriwiri in the background or anywhere else in that video.  After that I watched a video performed by a kapa haka group.

After trying to find the wiriwiri and also watching the video I made a copy of the kowhaiwhai template where I could make my own design and pattern to the most of my liking.

This activity was quite enjoyable since I could play around with all the designs that I could come up with and also to get more creative

Tānerore | Summer Learning Journey

For the Summer Learning Journey, I did an activity called "What are you doing".

First, I listened to an audio where a man asks a question in Maori. After listening to this, I rearrangement the mixed up words to their right place so that they would make sense.

The question that was asked was "What are you doing today" and my answer was "I am going to....".

I found this task quite enjoyable since I could learn some parts of Maori

Optical Illusion | Summer Learning Journey

For the Summer Learning Journey day 3 activity 3, we researched and learnt about optical illusions in order to make our own.

First, I observed the available shapes and created my own optical illusion using only the outlines of circles. I named this optical illusion 'Viral Tunnel' because the shapes form a tunnel.

People will see a tunnel because of the way that the circles are placed. One circle can seem like an opening and another circle can seem like an exit.

I enjoyed doing this the most out of all the other activitys.

Commenting | Summer Learning Journey

Today one of the people from the Summer Learning Journey Team Commented on my blogpost.

After she commented on my blogpost I first replied answering her question that she wrote, then I asked her a question then published that comment.

This activity was really fun because I got to play around with the designs to the way I would like it

Later on in the video we saw all the objects that we were supposed to find around the class, the objects that we found were: Egg carton, soda can, scissors, foil, ruler, string, and paper.

Some of the objects were quite hard to find with everybody running around and bumping into each other.  But it was fun at the same time.

QAR Questions | Reading

This week I did a QAR on a book title called " Graffiti Art or Crime"

A QAR is a strategy that is used after the reader has read the book.  QAR teaches the reader how to learn what types of questions they are being asked and where to find the answer to them

After I read the book I answered 10 questions and wrote what the answer is in the labelled boxes.  The boxes were labelled: right there, think and search, author and me, and lastly on my own.

This weeks reading was quite hard when trying to find the correct answers and trying to find the right box to put them in.

LI- To identify the main ideas in a text.
